Running 2012: Top 10 Health Benefits of Running

Running is a healthy outlet to assist in living a low stress life. Understanding the right way to warm up and cool down can add to the health benefits of running.
Physical Strength: Physical strength is one of the most popular reasons for beginning a running routine. Building strength in your lower body, muscles, tendons, and ligaments can greatly reduce the daily effects of fatigue and aging. Building physical strength also helps prevent future injury to muscles and bones due to increased stability.
Weight Loss: Gaining more muscle helps you lose weight from fat. The motion of the extra weight from fat moving up and down, helps to break it down into more manageable portions for the body to get rid of. Running also helps tighten the skin as the weight comes off. Losing weight greatly reduces the risk of heart attack and other illnesses that extra weight can cause.
Heart Health: Running helps build healthy heart muscles and increase the amount of blood the heart can pump. Having a healthy running schedule also helps reduce the risk of heart attack and increases the amount of blood the heart can pump without over exerting itself. A healthy heart can increase length and quality of life.
Helps Prevent High Blood Pressure: Healthy arteries alone cannot prevent high blood pressure. However, getting your arteries to work does. When you run, your arteries expand and contract harder than usual. This allows them to stay just as fit as the rest of your body. Keeping your arteries elasticity up by running, is a great way to maintain a healthy blood pressure. This reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Reduce Effects of Diabetes: A regular running schedule can actually help reduce the effects of diabetes on the body. Studies show that regular exercise can actually help maintain a healthy blood sugar and reduce diabetic resistance to insulin. Having more manageable blood sugar can increase the types of food you can eat, and decrease the amount of medication you need.
Lessen Effects of Asthma: Studies show that slowly adding a running regimen to your schedule can actually reduce the effects that asthma has on your life, and it can also reduce the amount and the severity of your asthma attacks. This is because your lungs and bronchi are strengthened over the time that you run.
Joint Strength and Stability:
Running not only increases strength in your leg muscles, it also increases the strength of your tendons and ligaments. Increasing the strength of your tendons and ligaments increases joint strength and stability. This can greatly reduce the risk of ankle, knee, and hip injuries.
Personal Control: Running on a regular schedule, reducing the effects of many disease processes, reducing the amount of medication needed to control your health, and allowing you to control these things, gives you a sense of self control. Being able to control your own schedule, your own health, and your own future, gives you personal control of your destiny. This helps build self confidence and increases quality of life.
Increase Bone Density: High impact sports and activities, such as running, can actually improve your bone mineral density. As bone is stressed as your foot impacts with the ground, the body recognizes this stress. Because of the stress that has been applied to it, the body sends essential materials to create new bone to the stressed areas. The result is stronger, denser bones.
Overall Mental Health: Chemicals released while running can actually help people over come symptoms of depression, anxiety, and bipolar. This is the case even in severe cases. Exercise and the accomplishment can also give you a better personal image of yourself. Feeling happy with who you are, and being satisfied with yourself is the best way to boost your overall mental health.
Running has always been a big part of my life. I enjoy the outdoors, the fresh air, and the serenity of the only sound in the area being birds, and my shoes hitting the pavement.

RUNNING INJURIES:cause & symptoms

The Diet Secret That Protects against Toxic Pollution

Chemical stressors surround us. From toxic pesticides in food to harmful chemicals in food cans, soaps, and candles, it's basically impossible to get through a day without experiencing a harmful exposure. The good news is that making smarter personal choices can protect us from many everyday chemicals. And now, researchers believe that adopting certain food habits—and trashing bad ones—can help blunt the blow of pollution present in daily life.

In a commentary published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, researchers cite evidence that eating unhealthy foods makes you more vulnerable to pollution's negative effects. For instance, although polychlorinated biphenyl compounds, or PCBs, are banned from commercial production, the once heavily used substances still persist in the environment. PCBs are particularly nasty once they enter the body, promoting the formation of disease-promoting free radicals and inflammation. This common contaminant also throws off normal cell signaling, a communication error that promotes the growth of dangerous visceral fat that envelops organs. This cell-signaling problem is also implicated in metabolic syndrome, an increasingly common medical condition that bumps up medical costs about $2,000 per person per year in the United States.

To help tame the stress that chemicals cause in our bodies, researchers suggest ditching omega-6–rich processed foods and adding healthy omega-3– and antioxidant-rich foods to your diet. While the damage is most severe in babies still developing in the womb and in young children, cleaning up your diet will help benefit you, no matter what your age.

The Protectors: Eat These 3 Things! Many everyday chemicals throw our bodies out of whack, but foods rich in omega-3s and antioxidants may help jump-start your system, helping to get processes regulated again. Smart omega-3-rich choices include:1. Old-fashioned eggs—Eggs from hens raised out on pasture contain two times more omega-3s than standard store-bought eggs. As an added measure, find a local pasture-based farm that supplements hens with certified-organic feed so you can to avoid genetically engineered ingredients and pesticide residues.2. Walnuts—A quarter-cup of walnuts weighs in at 160 calories and provides nearly all of the omega-3 fatty acids you need in a day. The source is ALA, a precursor to omega-3s that your body turns into the beneficial fat. Flaxseeds are another plant-based option for high omega-3 content.3. Wild-caught Alaskan salmon—Many fish are rich in omega-3s, but many are also also contaminated with mercury and PCBs. Wild-caught Alaskan salmon is one of the richest sources of omega-3s, but without high levels of pollution found in other seafood. Avoid farmed salmon altogether—it's full of toxic contamination.

The Disease Promoters: Omega-6–Rich Foods to AvoidWhile we all need omega-6s, the standard American diet that's heavy on the processed foods leads to an unhealthy omega-3 to omega-6 ratio. Foods rich in omega-6 fats help to amplify the inflammation, free-radical production, and cell-signaling chaos caused by the pollution you come into contact with every day. To start cutting back on omega-6s, cut out processed cereal and replace it with organic oatmeal; avoid foods containing corn or safflower oils and replace those with a more neutral oil, such as olive oil; and ditch fast food—it's saturated in obesity- and autoimmune-disease-promoting omega-6s.

Weight Loss Trends You Should Avoid

Shedding those extra kilosand regaining the perfect physique is a matter of concern for everyone today.Losing weight is essential, but undergoing this weight loss program the healthy way is extremely crucial. In the frenzy of getting rid of the bulge quickly, one tends to adopt the attractive but unhealthy route. Below are a few weight loss tips that must be avoided:

Diet Pills

Resorting to a number of diet/weight loss pills available in the market is certainly the wrong choice. Watching the so called ‘Health Shows’ on television, people fall for it and do not question the science behind it which may end up harming the body in the longer run.

Skipping Meals

Skipping meals in the day is definitely the most incorrect way to loose weight. One tends to believe in the notion that avoiding a meal will result in lesser intake of calories, hence loss of weight. Unfortunately such individuals consume more quantity of food in the next meal causing overeating and weight gain instead of loss. So any of you trying to skip your breakfast, lunch or dinner, it’s certainly not advisable to do so.

Impatience

Like everything in life, human beings are impatient and expect quick returns and results even with reference to weight loss. It is important to remember that weight loss is a gradual and time-consuming process. Regular exercise, a healthy diet and a patient attitude will eventually show the desired results.

Fasting

A myth that plays around in the minds of people especially the youth today, is that fasting is equal to weight loss. A day or two of fasting cleans and detoxifies the system but continuous lack of food for the body can prove to be a dangerous affair. The body requires a supply of essential vitamins, minerals and fats in order to function. Starvation can invite a number of health problems resulting in the reduction of the immunity levels of the body.

Aggressive exercise regime

Planning and following an aggressive exercise routine is often mistaken with immediate weight loss. What one tends to overlook is the long-term damage done to the body in the tumult of the short-term and immediate results that it produces. A well-planned, disciplined workout regime not only aids systematic weight loss but also boosts energy, improves the overall physical and mental health of the body.

Consuming Diet products and artificial sweetener

Diet snacks, dairy products available in the market certainly facilitate the weight loss process but it is imperative to consume them in moderation as per the diet plan
suggested by the expert. Also, artificial sweeteners incorporated in the diet must be consumed in small quantities since anything can excess can be harmful for the body.
Keeping away from these basic pointers will not only help you achieve your weight loss target but also ensure that the process is systematic, not causing any major damages to the body. Stay Fit! Stay Happy!
